Why am I here?

No, this is not an existential question, this is literal. So I’ll skip to the answer: FOOD! Why else would I be anywhere really? Okay, a little more backstory. Over the last several years I’ve felt the increasing need for a creative outlet. More, recently I’ve had a LOT of time to think and my epiphany was this:

“Food is how I relate to the world. Food is how I emote. I love food. I love cooking. I love finding the best fresh, local, ingredients. I love sharing what I create with my family and friends. I love the entire process. Without it there is a void.”

I have a passion for cooking, eating, and sharing fresh, simple, seasonal meals (which are mostly, sort of, healthy-ish).┬áIncreasingly I want to know where my food came from, who produced it, how it was produced, and how it got to me. I cook with ingredients I care about and have a connection with. I have an amazing wife and two incredible daughters that keep me running around. I’m also trying to impart my love of cooking to my daughters so if you see them chopping, mixing, tasting don’t be surprised.

Oh, and did I mention cocktails?

So, those are some of the things that I’m going to be writing about. Cooking, eating, and sharing simple, fresh food and cocktails. Where it comes from. And how I am trying to do better, get more engaged, and know more about the food systems that come together as the base for the food I eat.

I’m glad you stopped by, hopefully you relate on some level and join in the conversation. Now that you have a little about WHY I’m here feel free to take a look at what has shaped my palate, my food memories/taste experiences, HOW I cook or my cooking philosophy, and most importantly WHAT recipes I like to eat and cook!

Cheers!

Ian

P.S. Coincidentally, Happy May Day!
