Quick Cannellini Beans with Sage and Garlic

Super quick take on the classic combination. Great side dish I love paired with succulent meats grilled, smoked, or seared!

Cannellini Beans with Sage and Garlic

  • 2 cups cooked cannellini beans
  • 2 tsp garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp fresh sage leaves, sliced
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch pepper

Fried Sage

  • 1 tbsp fresh sage leaves, sliced (for frying)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil


Cannellini Beans with Sage and Garlic

  • Add cannellini beans, garlic, and first part of sage leaves to a pan and stir together. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Turn small pan on to low/simmer and cook slowly for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Fried Sage Leaves

  • Heat a small pan over medium heat.
  • Add olive oil to the pan and swirl to coat.
  • Add slices of sage leaves a few at a time, cook a couple seconds each and remove to a paper towel.


  • Serve a bit of beans with a few fried sage leaves on top!


Such a great combination, not over the top flavor  just subtle and delicious, the perfect accompaniment for all kinds of meat. Maybe a succulent rosemary garlic pork chop or some tritip alla Fiorentina?
